Gianni Raffaelli employs the same etching techniques that were developed in medieval artisan workshops of Florence 500 years ago. The complex slow process includes sketching the subject on paper, imprinting the images on the copper plate with special needles, and acid-based etching. For larger projects, it is not unusual to spend three months preparing a single copper plate. Some of the etchings are then meticulously colored by hand, such as the offered piece. Each plate produces only 150 etchings of the same image. This artwork is numbered 56 out of 150.
