Group portrait drawing of Heidelberg University and its faculty by the acclaimed American artist Paul E. Harney (1850-1915). Ink on paper. Signed by the artist and dated 1886. Note that paper has areas of foxing and discoloration consistent with age, please inspect the pictures carefully. The drawing is matted and set in a gorgeous antique solid wood frame that preserved in great condition.

Paul E. Harney was born in New Orleans in 1850. He studied at the National Academy of Design in New York City and at the Royal Academy in Munich, Germany. Harney eventually settled in Alton, Illinois, located near Saint Louis. He taught at the Saint Louis School of Fine Art and was a prominent member of the city's vibrant art community. Paul E. Harney is mostly known for his oil paintings of barn scenes and portraits of monks. A drawing by this artist is a rare find.
